Performance Evaluation

Congratulations to all of you for a piece of extra-ordinary theatre last night!

Now we need to finalise all the documentation and marking. The first thing I want you all to do today is EVALUATE your OWN performance from last night. Be honest, but also be positive about yourself...maybe a friend can help you if you can't think.

Please do so in the following way:
1. Using a scale from 1 - 5 (5 being the best) rate your performance on the four core principals: Energy, focus, self awareness, group awareness.
2. How 'convincing' were you in the role/roles you played? Did you shape each role to its full extent?
3. How did you use your voice? Evaluate your volume and projection, the vocal tone or resonance, its appropriateness for the character and moment of the compostion, and clarity and articulation - were you clear?
4.How did you use yor physical skills? What did you do with your body that was 'extra-ordinary' for the audience? What risks did you take? How did you interact with the group and the audience?
5. What, if any, feedback did you get from your family/audience about your performance and the show in general.

We did not exactly start off with energy 5 but it built up considerably throughout the play. The boosom line that cracked everyone up was not a sorce of humor, and therefore clearly our focus was close to its peak.

I believe that I could have been more convincing in the roles that I played, but I still pulled off an overall convicing performance.

Projection was a bit of a challange but I think that I managed to speak loud enough for the audience to hear me clearly over the music. I did, as did we all, have trouble with remembering to plead to Tamora.

I think that it is brilliant that I didnt get myself stuck in the window again. Is that not awesome physical skill? It was hard to maintain energy level 5 when on the scafolding but with Kristen's coregographical expertise (teehee) we managed to keep each other on track with the snake movements. Climbing into the audience made it extra ordinary for them, as they were taken from their comfort zone and basked in the intensity of the story.

My mother and others who came have said that it was an experience that they could never forget. Specifically the symbolism and interaction made the performance interesting and much more different than anything that they had ever seen.

1. Using a scale of one to five my individual performance was:
Energy:4
Focus:4
Self Awareness:4.5
Group Awareness: 5

In reguards to the lay out of my first response, each different paragraph stands for a different question.

1. Using a scale from 1 - 5 (5 being the best) rate your performance on the four core principals: Energy, focus, self awareness, group awareness.

I would give myself a 4. The energy level was pretty much the same throughout the whole way except when the energy level was at seven and we had to be completely still, i was a bit wobbly. This was largely due to the fact that there was adreniline running through my system. :) I kept focus through the whole thing but at one stage i smiled but it wasnt very noticeable. My group awareness was good as when we were weaving through each other, i was able to see where everyone was without actually seeing them. During practices we were able to develop our group awareness. My self awareness helped me to think of what was coming next and how i used the space around me.

2. How 'convincing' were you in the role/roles you played? Did you shape each role to its full extent?

I was pretty convincing in the roles that i played. I really felt as though my character began to feel real to me in a way. The audiences comments further emphasized this.

3. How did you use your voice? Evaluate your volume and projection, the vocal tone or resonance, its appropriateness for the character and moment of the compostion, and clarity and articulation - were you clear?

I felt as though my voice was used well. When the whole cast had to sing hush little baby, i found that i was out of breath and probably could have had more control over my breathing. The clarity of the words when the whole cast was saying words was a bit hard to understand yet still got the point across.

I will do the other questions some other time :)

Peace.♥

4.How did you use your physical skills? What did you do with your body that was 'extra-ordinary' for the audience? What risks did you take? How did you interact with the group and the audience?

Throughout the whole performance, i tried to execute every move to the best of my ability. The moves that i had to do weren't that extra-ordinary so i tried to make what i did, look tricky. :)
I interacted with the audience through running through and hissing at them. I stepped out of my comfort zone completely, as the whole physical theatre thing was new to me. I felt completely uncomfortable the whole time but tried not to let it show.

5. What, if any, feedback did you get from your family/audience about your performance and the show in general.

I got alot of feedback from my family and friends that came to see the performance. My mum was commenting on the visibility of the two different teaching styles. Mrs M-C's class was very 'in your face' and dramatic whereas our class was more eerie and tended to have a story therough it.

Comments were also made about the whole performance in that it was very unexpected and unpredictable. It was thouroughly enjoyed. :)

That's the lot

Peace.♥

on a scale from 1 to 5 i would rate myself to be about a 4.

2. How 'convincing' were you in the role/roles you played? Did you shape each role to its full extent?

i thnk that i was fairly convincing in the roles that i played. i tried my best to shpae each role to its full extent. although some improvment could be made.

3. How did you use your voice? Evaluate your volume and projection, the vocal tone or resonance, its appropriateness for the character and moment of the compostion, and clarity and articulation - were you clear?

i spoke clearly and loudy, although i think the tone i used in some parts of the play could have been a bit different when needed, such as , on the 'tower' i think i could have spoke in a more menacing tone.

4.How did you use yor physical skills? What did you do with your body that was 'extra-ordinary' for the audience? What risks did you take? How did you interact with the group and the audience?

I used my physical skills by moving in wierd ways and trying to become the character. Some risks that i took regarding the audience was that i went right up to people's faces.

5. What, if any, feedback did you get from your family/audience about your performance and the show in general.

some feed back that i got from my family was that the story line was a bit hard to follow but in the end it was a brilliant piece of theatre and that all members of the group performed very well.

1. Using a scale from 1 - 5 (5 being the best) rate your performance on the four core principals: Energy, focus, self awareness, group awareness.
I believe that I and the rest of the class had the necessary energy levels. Before the play had actually began, the whole cast needed to use level seven energy levels, as it was needed for us to sit perfectly still while the audience members where as taking their seats, through out the rest of the play, I believe I used level five energy levels, according to the Zen Zen zo energy levels. There where times, where a lot of energy was lost, and I found that myself along with other cast members, lost our energy as well as our breathe. This was due to the amount of running around needed in the play, though this factor did not affect the play as It is believed that the perspective of Lavinia in Shakespeare’s Titus Andronicus was well presented. Certainly a 5/5 rating.
I found that the whole cast, including myself, focused very well, not one person giggled or messed up. Even at the close interaction with familiar faces in the audience, all cast members where able to keep straight faces and continue to create a chilling performance. Definitely a 5/5 rating.
It is believe that my self awareness started of quiet well as I walked down the stairs successfully, though I was delayed and distracted by ribena on my arm, this caused a minor delay in lines, it was then that I realised that I had to focus on my self awareness a lot more, from then on that I portrayed a more believable character through my performance. This was probably a 3/5 rating. =[
Our group awareness was quiet good, as I was initially scared in or scene, known as the ‘tell, tale’. This scene involves a lot of running to leave the appearance of chaos, the running involves darting from one spot to another, in previous rehearsals, and actors had darted into each other, but it was found that on the performance night in general the group was aware of each other and all turned out well. =] 5 of 5

2. How 'convincing' were you in the role/roles you played? Did you shape each role to its full extent?
I believe that the roles I played were quiet convincing; I did not loose focus even when I accidently stood on Mr. Kotzur, and I continued to keep in character. This assisted with staying in character.

3. How did you use your voice? Evaluate your volume and projection, the vocal tone or resonance, its appropriateness for the character and moment of the composition, and clarity and articulation - were you clear?
In the first scene it was needed for me to project my voice, in which I believe I did quiet successfully. In this scene I also needed to speak quiet confidently, as I was proposing toast, I also believe I did well in this.
In another scene it was needed for myself, along with two other actors, to make moaning noises underneath the voices of two other actors. This was done really well as it added to the atmosphere.
I also believe that within, and through out the play I believe that I was clear, and used my voice to contribute to the atmosphere.

4.How did you use yor physical skills? What did you do with your body that was 'extra-ordinary' for the audience? What risks did you take? How did you interact with the group and the audience?
In the performance, it was needed for cast members to climb in and over the audience, in order to add to the atmosphere. There was quite a risk involved, as chairs needed to be climbed over. I completed this task, even if I did kick my toes. Hehe.

5. What, if any, feedback did you get from your family/audience about your performance and the show in general.
I did not get feed back, I got many complements. The one thing that was said negatively was that with the other performers standing backstage, it was hard for certain audience members to focus on the performance ahead.

1. Using a scale from 1 - 5 (5 being the best) rate your performance on the four core principals: Energy, focus, self awareness, group awareness.
On the scale from 1-5 i would rate myself as being a 4, energy was kept at a great pace and was held at a high level throughout the entire presentation..even through the parts when we were still we held energy.
Focus i would rate at probably a 5..during rehearsal focus was one of my main problems and i think it was probably for all of us, but when we got up there it wasnt, i stayed in character and became the character the whole time. There was probably only one part when i broke character which was when i met the eyes of one of my friends and smirked a little.
My Self awareness was what kept me going, it helped me in knowing of the space around me and what i was doing as my slef as the character.
My Group awareness was great throughout the whole time, everyone worked together in knowing where everone would be, especially in the scenes were we had to weave and run around wildly there was no bumping or coliding because we were aware of the space and people around us.

2. How 'convincing' were you in the role/roles you played? Did you shape each role to its full extent?
I beleive i played the my roles well, i really tried to step into the character.. it was hard to go from being tamora a cold hearted woman, and then the transition to titus, who was the opposite of her. But using my voice and with the help of others i believe i shaped both characters greatly..

3. How did you use your voice? Evaluate your volume and projection, the vocal tone or resonance, its appropriateness for the character and moment of the compostion, and clarity and articulation - were you clear?
The ways that i used my voice was very important, as it was the cut between my characters, for tamora i had to be hissy, deep and overpowering which i beleive i pulled of quite well, it was hard as it is the opposite to my voice but with practise to just came to me. Then for titus it had to be deep and clear, it was hard to keep the clarity of these voices but once i stepped into the roles of these characters i felt that i just became them in all ways.

4.How did you use yor physical skills? What did you do with your body that was 'extra-ordinary' for the audience? What risks did you take? How did you interact with the group and the audience?
I used my physical skills in all the scenes were we had to jump around the space, around the audience doing abstract like dance movements, in scenes like this physical scenes were needed greatly, all the scenes in fact needed physical skills.. having to climb up on towers, doing diverse dance movements or running around the stage.

5. What, if any, feedback did you get from your family/audience about your performance and the show in general.
My mother told me afterwards that she didnt expect me to be that good, she didnt think i had the focus or was serious enough to become the characters,im glad i suprised her..
Also other people said it was alot different to anything they ever saw, but in a good way.
Getting up close to the audience was a real treat and a great adrenlin rush.. so generally i think they all enjoyed it..

As my own judge I would rate myself a 4-5 for energy, as most of my acting skills were controlled and used through movement, which I am involved in quite a bit and enjoy ...So it wasn’t hard for me to put a lot of effort into my energy as I’m used to performing :).With my focus ranking I could have done a lot better! I believe that there were times through out the performance where I wasn’t fully focused, as lines and eye contact with other performers distracted my focus... Trying not to laugh during some lines, I believe I still pulled together a compelling presentation. With an overall ranking I give myself a satisfactory 3 .My group awareness was great as unconsciously I could make myself aware of where other characters were whilst still in focus ... My self awareness was used with the attentiveness to where I was supposed to be standing throughout the performance and my projection and tone during my dialogue sequence.

2. How 'convincing' were you in the role/roles you played? Did you shape each role to its full extent?

As performing the character Lavinia, I shaped my character to its full potential ...When I came down the stairs in character I acted as though I didn’t want to hear the torment ... So in co ordination I shook my head and held my throat as I positioned the audience to feel scared and petrified from when Tamora cuts Lavinia’s tongue out. In all of my roles I believe that I was a ‘convincing’ character and I believe I shaped my character to its full extent.

3. How did you use your voice? Evaluate your volume and projection, the vocal tone or resonance, its appropriateness for the character and moment of the compostion, and clarity and articulation - were you clear?

I felt that my voice was loud and clear during all of my dialogue .Generally for volume and projection I spoke loud whilst performing Aaron’s character .The clarity and articulation was a bit out of proportion as we all didn’t sound in time ...but overall my voice was used to get our point across and it did as there was some great feedback from the audience .

1. Using a scale from 1 - 5 (5 being the best) rate your performance on the four core principals: Energy, focus, self awareness, group awareness.
(5/6) I believe in group rehearsals the group energy was not high, where as on the night of the performance, it started out sloppy but built up to around energy level 5 even maybe 6. (4) The focus was very strong and really helped build the atmosphere of the performance. (3) I believe I was relying more one the group to guide me into scenes.
(5) The Group awareness was excellent; I believe that everyone helped each other out, which conclusively helped our point to get across strongly to the audience.

2. How 'convincing' were you in the role/roles you played? Did you shape each role to its full extent? I believe that the roles I played were quiet convincing, I did not lose focus.

3. How did you use your voice? Evaluate your volume and projection, the vocal tone or resonance, its appropriateness for the character and moment of the composition, and clarity and articulation - were you clear? Throughout the whole performance I tried to convey my voice in a pleading/ haunting tone. However I was really sick while this performance was preformed, causing great difficulty to project my voice loud, but I still managed in the end :).

4. How did you use your physical skills? What did you do with your body that was 'extra-ordinary' for the audience? What risks did you take? How did you interact with the group and the audience? I transformed my body into any weird characters I had to become. From a hissing snake to a raped, abused, armless Lavinia. Some risks I took where throwing my body at the audience, by jumping over chairs, getting right up close to some people’s faces. It was needed for cast members to climb in and over the audience, which all helped in creating the over all atmosphere of the performance.

5. What, if any, feedback did you get from your family/audience about your performance and the show in general. My family all believed that is was a different experience one not to be forgotten. However they could not follow the story line and as my dad said “were you ghosts or something”.

4- i had to carry rachelle down the stairs. i had to use a significant amount of focus and energy to do that.

had to take on a certain amount of power and leadership in leading the hungry dogs around the stage, directing them on who to attack.

i had to realise moments of stillness and commit to them 110%

it was unusual for me to be interacting with the audience however i enjoyed the experience it was confronting for me as a actor yet i was able to hold character, which freaked the audience out.
